~ Dyres to Test New Fire Pump

Provides Pressure For Sprinkler System

Rowboats will be-in-erder Sunday morning on E. Pearl St. L. 8. Ayres & Co. officials, in co-operation with the Indianapolis fire department, will test a new 1000-gallon fire pump installed in the sub-basement of the department store to provide pressure for the automatic sprinkler system. The pump will be hooked up to downtown mains and water will gush from hoses into the street at the rate 5f 1000 gallons a minute. The pump was manufactured by the Peerless Pump Division, Food| Machinery & Chemical Corp., 2005 Northwestern Ave. and installed by Hayes Brothers. R. B. DeMars, building superintendent of Ayres’, explains that prior to the installation of the new pump, water for the sprinkler system was provided by five storage tanks on the roof of the building. The pump, which generates A pressure of 135 lbs. per square inch, makes an unlimited amount | of water available in case of fires, | he said. Mr. DeMars said the pump! would be available to the city fire department in case of other fires in the vicinity of L. 8. Ayres.
