Amateur at’ Merion was sensational enough to gain national attention to the talent of the 14-year-old Atlanta prodigy. When America entered World War I, Bob and his closest pal and rival, Perry Adair, were enlisted to play matches to raise funds for the Red Cross. Alexa Stirling, another outstanding Atlantan, also was invited to play, along with Elaine Rosenthal of Chicago. The foursome had a wonderful time tour-
