L ROMANCE... . PRINCE CHARMING AND CINDERELLA
Bob Taylor, Monroe Here This Week
By R. K. SHULL “CINDERELLA,” Vaughn Monroe and Robert Taylor will head the theater entertainment line-up for the near future.
New openings are: “Cinder_ella,” Indiana, soon). Vaughn Monroe, on stage at the Circle Friday, and Robert Taylor in *Conspirator” (Loew's; Saturday): "Lyric and Esquire Theaters will bring in two revival programs. Lyric will open Thursday with “Wake Island” and “So Proudly We Hail” Esquire will start Friday with “Major Barbara.” LJ = » ‘Cindy's’ Comin THE MORAL to the happy tale of Cinderella should make the ==eplder-generations; as -well-as-the-moppets, stop and think. Harsh words -and snap judgments are the downfall of the wicked stepmother in the story and of many people in real life.
With the patience of a man with two mothers-in-law, Cinderella slaves away at keeping the castle clean, while her stepmother and two stepsisters rest on their vanity.
Brow-beaten but not unhappy, Cindy accepts her sad lot in life with a smile. Her only ‘leasure is in the companionship of the castle mice, Bruno the dog and Major the horse. All have a chronic dislike for the stepmother's cat, Lucifer. Comes the time when the King .sends out an invitation to every maiden in the land to attend the ball in honor of Prince Charming. The stepmother and Lucifer connive to keep Cinderellr away, but with the aid of the mice and a Fairy Godmother, Cindy appears at the last moment and steals Prince Charming’s heart. Midnight and the spell is broken. The. coach and four bhecomes a pumpkin and four mice. Cinderella goes home in tears, her only chance at romance and adventure lost.
Next day and the Prince sends out. his emissaries to find the owner of the glass slipper Cinderella lost at the ball. Again, the stepmother eliminates Cinderella from the competion, but the mice come to the rescue. Heart-breaking moment comes when Cinderella starts to-try-on the slipper. . The clumsy servant drops the shoe, breaking it into fine pieces. Luckily, the fairy - Godmother didn’t reclaim the other slipper, so Cinderella produces it as evidence. In the end, Cinderella gets the Prince of her dreams and the wicked stepmother gets a rebuke from the government. Walt Disney has exercised some groups, artistic license in creating the|Moonmen.
