Right off they made money, at first enough to live on, then more, in their offices at 129 E. Market St, now the Fidelity Trust Co. building. "They did brokerage and insurance, property management, farms and selling. The management end of the business put butter on their bread. It was always there. It always paid. In 1935 with the depression thawing, they took on the exclusive agency for the Prudential Life Insurance Co., doing a mortgage business. In 1837, they started the Meridian Farm Service Co. to handle farm loans and sales. It was then that businessmen rushed into the country to buy “security farms.” Many sold later. By 1936, Mr. Hall found his place secure. He was elected president of the influential Indianapolis Real Estate Board. And today he is serving his second term as president of the hustling, bustling Marion County Residential Builders. With his firm, resolute voice, the straight look in his eyes, and his ability to organize, he had won both the confidence of the shelter industry wand the community. As example, he was chosen to build the “Ideal House” for the Electrical Home Exposition last fall. It was his own ideal house, the fruit of years of vision, ripening into brick and plaster, wood and concrete, He started to build houses in 1940. The depression housing shortage had piled up demand, and he was ready. Even when the war came, he continued to build through War Production Board priorities to house war workers. “People always want houses,” he says, “and we try to sell then the house they want and need, not the biggest one always.” He thinks ahead.
