Charge Phony Bills Sold at 20¢ Per $1
NEW YORK, Jan. 27 Federal authorities announced today the cracking of “one of the biggest counterfeiting rings in the country.” Four men were arrested here and one in Los Angeles, Cal. Secret Service agents recovered $200,000 in counterfeit bills, Asst, United States Atty. Irving H. Saypo! said the gang had been pelling phony American dollars for 20 cents on the dollar. Those arrested here were Anthony Chiarella, 33, Vincen Palia‘sano, 35, Anthony PietaranieHo, 26, and Joseph + Nardone, 49. Commercial artist John J. Stanein, 33, was arested in Los Angeles. Held in $100,000 Ball Chiarella, Paliasano and Pietaraniello were held in $100,000 bail each when arraigned early today before U. B. Commissioner Edward W. McDonald, Nardone, a taxi driver, was held in $20,000 bail Mr. Saypol said the arrests were made Wednesday night, but were kept secret until today while the men were put through intensive questioning.
