ular series concert. Two of them, maybe fifth grade pupils, asked at the door, “Are boys allowed in here, and how much money is it?” Those two stayed throughout. Some few older boys left quietly between numbers. One boy, possibly 8 years old, sat on the edge of his seat, registering fascination. A little miss of maybe 6 walked down the side aisle with all the aplomb of a North Side matron, The point of this overture is simply that music should not remain forever in the luxury-enter-tainment bracket. As Brooks Atkinson wrote in last Sunday's New York Times, “the further you go down in economic levels, the more people you find who have good taste.” I agree with Mr. Atkinson, and I think that Fabien Sevitzky pos{#ibly is too eager to “explain” music in words to an audience like last night's. Dr. Sevitzky's program started with Flotow's “Stradella” Overure and continued with a performance of Prokofieft’s ‘Classical Symphony.” was greatly improved over fits previous appearance this season on a Murat program. Hoagy Carmichael's “Brown|G County in Autumn” followed. Much as I admire Hoagy as a person and Brown County as an autumn landscape, I'm afraid this composition is not up to the Carmichael achievements elsewhere.
