The party celebrated the birthday of Mrs. Elizabeth Patrick who heads Ayres’ fashion bureau. For it the bureau staff and models borrowed the Indians’ uniforms to show that they were following Liz's pleas to “get in there and pitch.” The uniforms of the husky players weren't so much worn as draped on the slender - models, The Indians get their uniforms back with a photo of the girls as they looked in them . .. and a note saying, “Well, all right, we'd like to see YOU in a size 12!” » #n - ” ” » The crinkled look of nylon is borrowed for a rayon fabric at Ayres’. This is Bubblaire, $2 a yard, 44-inch width. In this, the seersucker crinkle is a fine, close one. Colors are about equdlly divided between dark and medium tones. Skinner's popular Truhu prints (washable, too) include stripes, dots, allover and paisley patterns and are $3.50 a yard. The “year 'round” tag is applicable to suitings as well as cottons, if the suiting is Burmilaire, a crisp but crease resistant material which sells for only $2 a yard at Ayres’. In the Burmilaire lineup are pin checks, shepherd checks, small houndstooth checks, muted glen plaids and muted stripes. Light or dark tones are available. Cohama’s Frostpoint suiting is another in the crisp category; $1.29 a yard, 42 inches wide and in an assortment of pin checks in pastels (lavender, even) as well as neutrals. . z For really ambitious sewing projects, Ayres’ offer 100 per cent wool coverts for suits AND coats. The former is $4.50 a yard; the coating is $5.95 and $7.50 a yard. AS IN SPRING FASHIONS generally, navy and red are the color stars in maternity styles for spring. Those two colors will be prominent in a pair of Ayres’ fashion shows Tuesday. These will be at 12:15 and 2:30 p. m. in the store’s secondfloor Maternity Shop. Among navy costumes to be shown is a faille suit with sideswept jacket closing and linen collar, It's $29.95.

A lightweight navy crepe frock, $7.85, has much tucking in its shorter-sieeved bodice. A red jacket pairs up with a navy wool skirt, but may be costumes. a string of pearls. She stood in front of a white satin kneeling bénch. Near the bride was a tiny flowergirl doll with a pink dress and pink flowers in her hands. The minister doll carried an open book on opposite pages of which were written “Betty” and “Dick.” An antique miniature piano was at one side and the musician seated there was correctly garbed in tails. At the other end of the table, Mrs. Harms set the scene for the wedding reception by using numerous china figures, collected abroad no doubt, representing the musiclans in a German band. Each piece was exquisite in itself—together they made an amusing effect. The usual table appointments were very lovely, the California handwoven off white mats having a wide gold band, made a pleasant contrast to the white Wedgwood service.

A Wedg-

wood urn filled with white flowers and Wedgwood candelabra formed the centerpiece.

- # 2 MRS. WILLIAM J. Young's guest, Mrs. Burnett Owen, returned to her home in Louisville last Monday. Mrs. E. Bishop Mumford is going east soon to see her daughter, Eileen Greene, before she and Dr. Mumford go to Naples, Fla. . Mrs. Mumford's daughter-in-law, Letitia Sinclair Mumford, and Tom have been more or less marooned in New Harmony with their brand new baby daughter as they were unable to get back to the farm on which they live because of the floods. I saw Tom Cox in a Northside restaurant on a Thursday night. He told me that his sister Jane and Kurt Vonnegut, now living in Schenectady, have a new daughter. The Doherty Sheerin family and Mrs. Marlow Manion and her son were dining there, too.
