Sets Four-Heart Contract .
n. Play F Do Wesf's
By Ducking First Round of Clubs THE ONLY thing that prevented West from mak-| ing this boldly bid game—was South. See.if you would have played as South did to defeat the four-heart contract. I should tell you that West made the right play in the heart suit. That is, he laid down the king first. When South showed oul. a small heart was led up to dummy and North was forced to split his honors or see dummy’s 10 win. Now let's go back to the beginning. It was North's opening jead and he chose the nine of clubs. The five went on from dummy. What would you play if you held the South cards? Suppose you want up with the ace and returned a club. West would win the. second trick with the jack. Lead King of Hearts He would cash the king of diamonds. Then he would lead the king of hearts on which you could pitch a& small spade. Now a little would bring out North's jack and dummy's ace would win, On the ace of diamonds, declarer would discard the trey of spades. The lead of dummy’s last heart|™
would give North a’ trick with ITSC Ch his queen. But that, plus the ace! apters of spades, would be the defenders’|
