a OTe Asis Bimioon. In her g col lection, seen yesterday by visiting fashion writers, she turns almost completely away from fullness and presents a slimmer silof houet. In suits she shows a. stem-slim skirt. Where fullness exists it is usually in the jutting peplum of a jacket, in widely | flaring elbow-length sleeves, - This 1s still another example of fashion emphasis moving from lower to upper part-of the silhouet. ‘The visiting editors are seeing it many times this week as the New York Dress Institute holds its National Press Week.

suit, for example. Showing her “gadabout suit” (a stem skirt topped by short, loose, box jacket), she says, “We are getting away from the very fitted things." Her chemisier suit is bloused at the top and has shirtmaker details. She also makes a “decollete” suit with low, scooped-out neckline for both jacket and Liouse. Her line includes many silk suits. B. Highlights among her slender silhouet dresses are some of georgette which was favored back in the Twenties , . . she transfers tweedy woolen patterns to printed silks and shows deep shadows play prints, figured taffetas, silk organzas and printed crepes, For one of the latter she uses the most beautiful color combinations in the world-—-Mediterranean green and blue.

Pleats Highlighted in Collection Claire McCardell, another of yesterday's NYDI stars, preci cally builds her entire collection around pleats, Everything from bathing suits to evening dresses is pleated. One of the two suits in her collection is pleated all over, It is kasha-colored wool with gold and white striped buttons to fasten the belted, bloused jacket. Her leading dress design is a pleated column held in, Grecian style, by a self-fabric piping tie. “This comes in sleeveless versions as well as with small sleeves, Fabrics for it range from tissue worsteds to tissue tie silk. It even comes in nylon tricot in sun-burn-nude tones. Permanently pleated, the nylon is printed with half horseshoes and is worn over darker slips. In the pleatedcolumn dresses there is elasticized stitching at the waist and under the bosom.

Skirts End Above Mid:Calf Broomstick pleating appears in a bloomer bathing suit o plaid gingham. The pleats crimp right back in after the suit | wet, rolled and dried. Pleats also show in Claire's new “shor shift” beach or play dress which ends just above the knees. Joset Walker and Hansen Bang were the other two designer whose collections were seen vesterday. Miss Walker. designer fo! David -M. Goodstein, Inc., stresses easy, Bloused bodices with droy shoulders and loose sleeves ending in big, turnback cuffs at the elbows. Her skirts have hems above mid-calf length. Waist-length boleros with black fullness are starred in Hansen Bang's line 45 He also features ‘very short toppers with back fullness. Both boleros- and toppers go with companion dresses.
