Second Generation Other early dancers were Messers. and Mesdames Walter Shirley, Andy Taylor, A. J. W. LeBien and Harvey Rhodehamel.. Now the .second Rhodehamel generation, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rhodehamel, is in the TNT. Among those who have held membership for a number of years are Messrs. and Mesdames Robert M. Lingle, E. E. MacLaren, Charles B, Sipe, Paul R. Summers, C. D. Sadler and N. M. Talbert. Mr. Talbert is president. The club holds eight dances a year with two extras—a holiday dance in the Athletic Club and a spring dance in one of the country clubs. All the dances are formal
They select a theme and plan a costume party. Mrs. Sadler is chairman this year. There's variety in the balls. The women have come as everything from valentines to southern belles. - There are 64 couples in the group. Chief Square One of the newest dancing groups in town is the Square Danging Club. It meets every three weeks on Friday nights in the Woodstock Club, “THis club began in the fall of '48, Thirteen couples got together to put on an exhibition square dance for the Children’s. Museum Guild's annual ball. They had so much fun planning. for: the “hoe” down” they decided to make it a club. , Those in the original squares were Messrs. and Mesdames Paul Payne, Berkley Duck, D.‘C. Duck, Gus Dongus, Thomas Umphrey, Kenneth Kinnear, Ralph Coble, Ben Weaver, Robert Wacker, David Burns, Don Keller, Frank Reissner and John Troyer. ~ There are now 18 couples fn the club. Max Forsythe, New Castle, comes down to call. ‘Berkley Duck was the Chief Square, or president, last year and Mrs. Burns and Mrs. Keller are this year's chief squares.
Informal Dancers In contrast to the formal" TNT, the square dancers wear cotton skirts, peasant blouses, sports’ shirts and blue jeans. There's another group which could be called an informal club. It includes six couples interested in brushing up on rumbas and sambas. They take in the Friday night buffets in the Athletic Club together. Members are Dr. and Mrs, Jake Gillespie, Messrs. and Mesdames Robert Blackburn, Edwin Gable, Hilbert Rust, Robert Seastrom and Ralph Triller. A second set around town that dances together includes Messrs. and Mesdames Hanly Blackburn, John Heidt, Harrison Eiteljorg, Henry Todd and Herbert Pinnell.
