These were a ‘few of the weird recorded by the National Safety Council today for 1949,

Thirteen-year-old Norman Lawrence was chasing a flyball in a sandlot game at Kast Oakland, Cal., when his pants exploded. Friction ignited matches which: set off a string of fire-crackers the youngster had hoarded. Spurred on, he streaked across the field and caught. the fly for the most spectacular play of the game, Baseball also proved hazardous for Bob Akers and his nose. While playing softball at the University of Cincinnati Mr, Akers misjudged a ground ball and suffered a broken nose, He retired to the bench and a few minutes later a bat broke and a piece struck his aching nose. At a hospital he found the second blow had knocked his nose back in skrape. He went home while he was ahead.
