Finds Kilt Wearing | Limited i in U. S.

By MARJORIE TURK ALISTAIR STUART

will “go native" tomorrow

night-—native Scot, that is. He will don his Stuart clan kilt:

The. attractive young Scotsman, wha has been in Indian213 years, has found only

apolis one opportunity for putting on his kin And this chance through the Civic Theater. Alistair has the lead in .'

morrow. He takes the of the Scotsman, Lachlen, and part of the action in the three-act . comedy-drama ters on the hero's kiit. It was a natural for Alistair

and costuming was no problem. -

He ‘merely. unpacked his own kilt and brought it down to the rehearsals.

Kilt Authority

The actor, who is connected with the Hugh J. Baker Co, is one of the city's leading kilt authorities. He started wearing the dress of his native land when he was a boy in the Highlands. “It's ideal for climbing and camping.” he claims. Then. when ne matriculated in George Heriot's School in Edinburgh, the kilt. was still worn for informal and for very dress-up affairs.

Even when he was mustered

out of the RAF, Alistair, who

was living in London, preferred

the kilt for week-end wear. “But. since coming to the U. 8.” he sdid, "1 only put my kilt .on when someone wants to see it. I have never worn it in public.” All this is changed now, however. Alistair will be in his colorful tartan every night for 10 days beginning tomorrow,

Scot's Accessories

There is more to the kilt than the traditional nine yards of pleated wool. On his head the Scotsman has a glengarry or

side-cap. For the play Alistair

will top the kilt with an army

tunic which is regulation with He'll also have the

the military. sporran, or purse, and hose with

a stocking flash. The flash is

a kind of colored tassel.

“In the stocking of his right leg Alistair, as ‘do all his kins- ~ men, will carry a sqean dhu, the fighting-hunting knife of Sticking to

the highlanders.
