Dr. Ruddell Is Speaker
Insurance Program
Is Recommended “The United States doesn’t need compulsory medical insurance,” Dr. Karl Ruddell, Indianapolis surgeon, told the Indianapolis Council of Women today in the Hotel Lincoln. “1 thoroughly believe a compulsory insurance program as outlinéd by Oscar E. Ewing would be shortly followed by complete’. socialization in this country.” A past president of the Indiana State Medical Association and one of the earliest advocators| for non-profit medical insurance, Dr. Ruddell compared European and American medical practice as observed. on a recent European tour with the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Lorene Gausepohl Baier and Walter Myers Jr, spoke at the morning session of the all-day meeting. The surgeon called for a moratorium on social security and reduction of taxes to keep Americans from going. headlong into socialism. “All we need here in America is non-profit medical care by private companies.

This is probably no more than it needs to be except in Britain and Germany. - - - “In Britain I doubt if the patient gets more than he pays for and I doubt if English economy can stand jt after we get through helping them financially. The English system is not conducive to good medical practice.” Mrs. Baier discussed the functions of a travel bureau. She explained how services could be offered through agencies without additional expense to the travel“We offer a lot and save them money,” she told. “Tours are keyed to the time and money people can spend.” | “More TB seals have been sent out this year than ever before,| asserted Walter Myers Jr. vice president of the Marion County| Tuberculosis Association.
Outlines Program He outlined the program be-! hind the Christmas seals sales, | explaining how the county chap-| ter activities tied in with the state and national program. Of the total collected from the seal sales| five per cent goes to the national| association, which co-ordinates| the entire program, and 12 per| cent to the state. The rest is| used here in Marion County, he| said. “Work of the TB Association, Its "research and publicity program is largely responsible. for| the decline of TB in the last 40
