He said Mr. Coyle left, brooded over his job loss in a tavern, and returned to Mr. Hoffman's home last night after the Hoffman family had retired. Mr. Hoffman was shot with a revolver as he slept. He told Mr. Winebrenner he jumped out of bed, grabbed a baseball bat and hit Mr. Coyle over the head, knocking him unconscious.
