Thats Wiky WE ARE FORCED TO ASK FOR
ANOTHER FARE INCREASY
@ This Company has asked for a fare increase because it has lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in the last year and a half. The Company lost even : + though a Tc fare i increase and o 2¢ transfer charge were granted urisg ico Ron “that time. Here are the reasons why: — 5
Mounting operating costs, and wage and pension increases have more than absorbed the revenue produced by the increased fares. Also, the loss of riders hos been greater than anyone anticipated . . . showing city a drop of 8,907,618 cash riders in the past year and a half. The decrease fo in transit passengers is a nation-wide, as well as an Indianapolis problem - sill ped | « + « due largely to the fact that most workers are now on a 5-doy rather Jihs + . thon a 6-day week, and to the greatly increased use of private automobiles. 1.
This’ Company had @ $312,039.71 net loss for the first nine months one of this year. Wage and pension increases, granted by 4 state arbitration board, and made retroactive to May 1st, increase that loss figure to $559,965.88. This increase alone will add an approximate $441,880 to our expenses every year from now on.
Wages, pensions and other operating cost increases, coupled with the lowered revenue resulting from the decrease in numbers of riders, have produced the financial puzzle facing us. Indianapolis must have on ade-
quate transit system. Increased fares can provide the money necessary to maintain if.

It is only u urgen nt = that compas your transit Compay to nk ; 34 for a fare increase. | of
