@ From the standpoint of a customer, the most important thing about gas service is pressure: when you turn on a gas burner, you expect a good sulystantial flame. Which is as it should be. What makes gas pressure a problem is that it depends on TWO factors: 1) how much pressure is created by the compressors and 2) how much gas YOU and your fellow consumers are using at the moment. : The more. folks use gas at any given time, the higher. the pressure must be, otherwise those at the end of a gas main would be out of luck half the time. That's where the engineers come in; :: The queer looking contraption you see above

Harrison, Traders Point, and 6450 West Morris, These gauges measure pressure constantly, transform the gas pressure into an electric impulse and—through specially ice. leased telephone wires record the pressure minute by minute on a chart at the Utility's Distribution Department. This system makes it. possible to KNOW instantly what gas pressures are many miles away, at the ends of the gas-main system. It is how the Gas Utility is able to keep gas pressures constant even at distant points.
