Mental Patient Beaten to Death

Fellow Inmate Accused in Death

A mental patient was beaten to death yesterday by another innate at the mental colony at

Benjamin Harrison Air Base.

Sheriff's deputies said Allison Devine, 54, formerly of 448 Bell “beaten beyond recognition” by an 18-year-old patient, Chester Morris, formerly of Ko-

“1 was afraid he would tell on me,” the officers quoted Morris as saying. They said questioning by authorities failed to get any other

explanation. Found in Dormitory

Dr. S8haum Gunderson, deputy coroner, said Mr. Devine died of four crushed ribs. His body was found in the men’s dormitory by another patient who reported it to Faye Hall, administrative officer

Mr. Hall told investigators patients were ‘not allowed in the dormitory during the day and he assumed Morris was fearful that|g Mr. Devine would reveal that he

was in the prohibited area.

Morris was confined at the institution. Authorities said he had been there six months and previously had been confined to the!

Central State Hospital.

Mr. Devine had been a patient for the past two and a half years.
