New Gymnasium

One of the most attractive places in the school is the new gymnasium for girls. Peachcolored walls, glass brick panels, and built-in ceiling lights make this room appeal to all of the girls, whether athletically inclined or not. Dressing tables and a long mirror line one wall of the dressing room. ; Ripplites enrolled in Business Education will demonstrate the use of new duplicators and typewriters. Art-metal classes are to sponsor a demonstration of Jewelry-making and dish and plate craft. A program of vocal music will be presented from 7 to 8 p. m. Another p of an entirely different type will be a wrestling and tumbling act.

Rifle Range

Visitors to the new ROTC Department will be especially interested in the 50-foot rifie range. The range has targets which can be operated from the firing line. Steel behind the targets is set at an angle of 70 degrees so that the bullets will glance off into the pit below. studies, English, and language classes will display student work done this semester. All of these classes meet in the new addition and have the most up-to-date equipment. New equipment in the modern Industrial Arts division will-be on display. This department is finished in red oak with light gray composition walls. The machine shop, wood shop, and drafting room will be open to the public. The department includes another shop which is not yet in use, and numerous storage closets. Each science and math room

will have a display of students’|Clency, severe underweight or

work. Demonstrations will also be held in each of these rooms.

What's Right

Situation: Someone tells you what nice manners your child has. Wrong way: Feel you must deny the compliment by saying that he certainly doesn’t show much evidence of good manners around home. Right Way: Say: “Thank you.” It is never necessary to run down a member of your family when an outsider makes a complimentary remark.

The Doctor Says—

Childlessness Often Cured

Many Cases Are

NO ONE KNOWS exactly how many married couples there are who want children but are unable to have them. J from what is known about the subject, howsver, there must be hundreds of thousands of involuntarily barren marriages. Many possible causes for sterility exist in both men and women. Structural defects, past diseases, disturbances in the glands of internal secretion (hormones) and absent or abnormal sperm or eggs are among the possibilities. In many cases, the difficulty, regardless of whether it is in the husband or in the wife, can be discovered and rectified either by medical or surgical means. In women, for example, the Rubin test which is used to discover whether the passageways by which the egg passes to the womb are open, has been of great use in diagnosing this cause of sterility. s 8 = y IN ADDITION to the more definite causes for sterility in men and in women, it is now recognized that in many cases the inability to conceive is not complete hut is temporary and merely caused by some minor ailment. A slight anemia, a vitamin defi-

overweight, or other signs of being below par may be at fault.

* » Dishing the » Dirt Q—I have some surprise lilies. They will be two years old this spring. They haven't bloomed yet. I kept them green all winter. ‘Is this the reason? A friend lets hers die each fall and she has lovely blooms. A reader. A—A surprise lily could be any one of a variety of plants (one reason I'm strong for botanical names.) But I suspect this is an amaryllis (long leathery leaves, lily-like flowers, usually a soft flame colors). Nonblooming can be due to a variety of causes. But try resting it now when you take it indoors. Put it in a dark, not too cool spot, withhold water gradually so that leaves drop. By January, maybe earlier, it will put up a shoot, indicating it's ready to grow again. Then bring gradually to a light window. Is your bulb potted in rich, welldrained soil?

Naturally, you won't sass them back. Nor will you knuckle down and buy stuff you don't want. The smooth procedure is to exit gracefully —with a firm and courteous, “No, thank you.”

He knows what he can afford to pay and doesn’t waste time looking at articles outside his price range. He speaks and acts courteously. There is, however,
