California Cold Wave Delays Model's Swim

SANTA MONICA, Cal, Oct. 20 (UP)—The earliest winter cold snap in 30 years has caused pretty model Yvonne Wood, 20, to wait until spring to try to swim the Catalina channel. “I'll stay out here and keep in condition,” the Taunton, Mass, art student said after she learned that the cold wave sent water temperatures down to 55 degrees George Young swam the 22-mile route in 15 hours and 48 minutes in 1927.

Mrs. Gastro was struck in the neck by a golf ball while she was sitting in the front row of a downtown theater, : Police said the ball apparently had been driven by an occupant of the balcony who used an umbrella handle for a club.
