IF YOU take a pair of field glasses and go for a hike along the waterways at this time of year you will probably be able to observe some members of the duck family. During fall and spring migration a very interesting hobby is that of trying to identify the various kinds of water birds that pass through your locality. If you have never noticed them before, you will be surprised at the large number of different kinds that can be learned by “&'poeket sized bird guide and making careful observations, A very helpful occupation which will add interest to your hobby is that of collecting small duck pictures and making a chart of the various kinds as you add them to your list. You will find that it will be much easier to retain the field indentification marks if you check against a picture. It would be even better to | draw or paint your pictures, and paste them on your chart classi fying them too as divers and surface feeders.
