Many of you live in sections of the country where nut trees: grow wild, others live where the nut trees are cultivated and are. grown for commercial purposes, but most of you can spend a fall’ day gathering nuts. Many families make a “nutting party” a regular annual affair in order to gather their winter supply for candies: and cake toppings. +! You youngsters who have never gathered black walnuts, ask’. Dad if he has had the experience, and if he remembers how the wal-.. nut juice stained his hands. When my brother and I were boys we’ used to take special pride in getting our hands stained a rich, deep. brown as we hulled the nuts. We aid our black walnuts by knocking them through a knot hole in a board. To cure the nuts, we, nailed another board along the edge of a barn roof and laid out a: single layer to dry. But—be sure that the squirrels can’t reach your: treasures as they dry in the sun. ; Get the entire family out, and gather nuts for the winter, TO-MORROW-—Basketball with Bushel Baskets. ¢
