Worst Heat Loss ¢ at Windows, Doors:

Storm Sash at Both Can Stop Waste

By BOB SCHARFF Written for NEA Service

two thirds. But their efficiency

depends entirely upon how well they are made and fitted. If you can afford only a few sashes, install them on the sides of the house exposed to prevalling winter winds. i Almost all window sash is of standard size and storm sash to fit is a stock item with the average lumber dealer. Usually all you'll have to do is saw off the horns at the bottom, and bevel the bottom to fit the sill and the top to shed water. Paint with two coats of white lead and oil or high grade outside paint. Otherwise the wood is apt to swell because of the absorption of moisture, A storm sash may be hung from a simple galvanized hook arrangement (which can also be used for supporting the window screens), or it may be held in place with wing catches applied to the outside surface of the frame. “A ventilator wi with a ~ sliding
