With the arfival of autumn today, many changes can be noted in the trees about us. Though we like to believe that a mythical Jack Frost paints the green leaves bright from his great paint pots of yellow, red and purple, we know that this is not true. You will note that many leaves change before the arrival of the first frost, and that a warm late fall will give us our most beautiful autumnal displays. ‘ A botanist, & man who studies about Plant life, tells us that the change of color is caused by a complicated chemical reaction within the leaf and the tree. Notice which of the trees in your see- | tion of the country are colored in yellow hues, and which are usually red or rich brown. One tree such as the sweet gum may go through many color changes, This is the time of the year to notice and collect the mature tree fruits. Many of these such as the nut families can be stored ‘for winter eating. TOMORROW—Turn a Hat-Box Into a Merry-Ge-Round, ;
