Foot Soldier Still Key-Gen. Clark
Declares They'll Take
Main Role in War
The American doughboy, the foot soldier, will play the key role in any future war, Gen. Mark Clark, new chief of the Army field forces, sald in Indianapolis last night. Gen. Clark addressed more than 2000 fellow members of a Masonic organization last night at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. He urged a “strong united force” in pointing out that no force could win an emergency by itself. “The Navy, the Army and the Air Force each have a role,” he said. “We canont dispense with anyone, particularly the doughboy who is needed to obtain and hold ground.” Gen. Clark warned that the nation must remain strong to combat communism in this country, Gen. Clark, as an Army captain, was initiated into Masonry
Jin Indianapolis in 1929 as a mem-
ber of the Mystic Tie Lodge. He became a Scottish Rite Mason the following year.
