Breaks All-Time . Record for Period, Palmer Reports

Home builders in Marion County had started 3406 new dwelling units between Jan. 1 and Sept. 1] this year with a value of $23.7 million, Fred L. Palmer, co-chair-man of the Parade o! Homes, announced yesterday. Of these 2713 were single houses, 460. double house units and 234 apartment units, he reported in his kick-off statement on the city-wide home open house exposition, “This breaks all records for the same period of any previous year,’ Mr. Palmer sald. "It is more than 20 per cent greater than the first eight months of 1048, when 2824 dwellings units Were started with an estimated value of $21,588,000. Nag asaki Atom Death Toll Placed at 73,884

NAGASAKI, Japan, Sept. 10 (UP)—The atom bomb dropped on Nagasaki Aug. 9, 1945, killed {73.884 persons=<more than three times as many as-had been previously estimated—it was disclosed today. The committee on “preservation of data of atomic bombing,” which has been conducting an ex- | haustive investigation of atom bomb casualties, announced .that in addition to the 73.884 killed, 76,796 were “injured or missing” after the blast.
