National Amateur ‘ champion, at the half-way mark in their 36-hole battle at Winged Foot Country Club, : White and Turnesa teed off first today as the two-day International competition was being completed with eight singles matches. The U. 8 team took a two-point lead yesterday by winning three of four Scotch foursome matches. © The United States, winner of 10 of the previous 11 meetings; was: an overwhelming favorite to conquer the invaders, but White showed the courage and determination of the Britons by charging to his lead over the brilliant Turnesa. ....The former British fighter pilot fired a two -over-par 40-34-74, which gave him his 2-up lead over Turnesa at the end of 18.
