collegiate powers. ‘ The so-called “sanity code” was a set of regulations adopted by he NCAA to govern college ath-| letics and was designed to eliminate abuses such as proselyting and liberal scholarhips for athletes. The 20 schools were found in violation at the April meeting of the committee, the report said, and unless they notify the group by August, when another meeting is- scheduled, that they will comply, steps to expel them from membership will be initiated. Expulsion would mean that none of the schools could compete with members of the NCAA in any athletic contest. It also would rule them out of any NCAA tournaments, and the committee hinted that athletes from expelled schools would not be permitted to enter Olympic competition, 19 Schools ‘Doubtful’ Nineteen additional schools have been classified as “doubtful” adherents to the code, the

McCready Beats Willie Turnesa

Irishman Called

‘American Killer’

PORTMARNOCK, Ireland, May 28 (UP)—8am McCready, a gallant Irishman who, refused to crack on his home soil, ended the American domination of the British Amateur Golf .Championship today by defeating favored Willie Turnesa 2 and 1 in a gruelling 35hole match.

Turnesa, the U. 8. amateur king from Elmsford, N. Y., fell apart in a driving rain of the final holes after a mighty comeback had put him on the .threshold to

vietory. ; Three Jinx Holes

But his three jinx holes on this rolling Portmarnock course—the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth—came up to plague him just when it seemed that he was going to win the title for the sec. ond time in three years. And in the end it was a heartbreaking ~ 25-foot putt which stopped ont the rim of the cup on the seventeenth green which cost him a chance to go on to victory. For, after going 4-down to his 31-year-old tobacco salesman opponent on the morning 18, he came baek to even the match on the third nine by shooting even par for each hole, and then forged into the lead for the first time on the 29th hole. Enough to Win It looked like the end of MeCready, a tournament dark horse, for he never had been behind all day and now his game showed signs of cracking. 5 But he managed to pull himself together and live up to his new nickname of “The American Killer,” which his friends bestowed on him yesterday after he put defending champion Frank Stranahan of Toledo, O., out of the running.

The game was forfeited to Michigan in the sixth inning when Art Mansfield, Wisconsin coach, protested a decision called by base umpire Buck 'Avell.
