If it’s overcast the night before an important Sunday double-header, his family says he paces the floor like an expectant father. However, he will not hesitate to call offga game early if the situation looks hopeless to save die-hard fans a futile trip to the ball park.

A Soft Spot for the Fans

AT ONE NIGHT game last summer when the Indians were well on their way to sewing up the pennant, every seat in the grandstand was filled by 7:45. Ted loves kids. All season long—without fanfare or ostentation—he arranges for youngsters to visit Victory Field to see the Indians play free of charge. Orphans are his specigl pets. Once each
