He previously was Chief Rabbi of Ireland. Spoke With Truman Upon his arrival in the United States, he conferred with President Truman and pronounced the President “a religious man who knows his Bible.” In 1944, he had an audience with His Holiness, Pope Pius XII. As a result, the Vatican facilitated the return of orphaned Jewish children in former Germanoccupied countries to the jurisdiction of the Jewish communities in their native countries. The United Jewish Appeal humanitarian program is carried on by the Joint Distribution Committee, the United Palestine Appeal and the United Service for New Americans. Funds are raised

Jewish refugees who are ak] ing a new life in Indianapolis will unveil and dedicate a monument May 22 in memory of the Jews who died at the hands of the Nazis. s The unveiling and dedication will take place at 2 p.m. around the monument in the new Central Hebrew Cemetery between the Bluff Rd. and West St. Approximately 100 refugee families contributed to the erection of the memorial. It serves as a token-tomb for departed members of their house-

A parchment on which is written the roll of the martyred kinsfolk has been sealed in the monument base, 10-Feet High The granite shaft stands 10 ft. in height. A bronze tablet affixed to it bears this inscription in Hebrew and in English:
“To commemorate the supreme
sacrifice through martyrdom of
our brethren who gave up thei
lives as victims of Nazi barbarism
1933-1945.”
