Before accepting Judge Pritchard's offer last November to take over bailiff duties, Mrs. Campbell acted as secretary to the Republican county

For whatever merit this business about show people and their troubles may seem to have had on Broadway (500 performances, it says here in the book), the play has not gained by a change of venue to Indianapolis. . On Broadway and with a professional cast, the play might carry some weight. It's right at home there; and all the exaggerated lampooning of actors, producers and playwrights would go over, Out here, where “equity” refers strictly to realty transactions, much is lost. What remains is the farce, which last night carried me back to high-school days, when anything any of us did on stage seemed miraculous to our parents. They considered us Barrymores because we didn’t trip over the footlights and fall into the orchestra pit. I'm not trying to ride Jack Hat-

The fact that she is considered Judge Pritchs “right arm,” is not enough for the woman bailiff. Actually, she says, she is “nuts And she hopes that in the not too distant future she will realize her fondest ambition and become one of Indianapolis’ Portias. The duties of a bailiff, Mrs. Campbell observes, are numerous. Aside from playing “nurse maid” to some 700 or 800 Indianapolis attorneys, Mrs. Campbell's chores include making entries on the docket, setting trial dates, doing legal research for the judge and last, but not least, clearing the court of undesirable persons. “Two often during the winter months,” Mrs. Campbell declared, “some of the town’s ‘bottle

Instead he gave his lady bailiff temporary custody of the girl with instructions to see if a plan could be worked out whereby the parents could be given instructions in understanding, love and affection for the misguided child. There's no reason why the Civic should attempt to smother the entertain-ment-seeking public with heavy stuff all the time. But here’s a point: This choosing of plays should not be final until a whole battery of aspiring actors have tried out. No play should be put on until there's some assurance that the actors believe in it. Professionals can carry and put!
