SpvenTy-rEREE YEARS AGO, on the bright spring morning of May 10, 1876, Colonel Eli Lilly began a new business. . .

Years before, as a lad of sixteen, he had paused on the square at Lafayette, Indiana, to study the name of ~ a drug store. “The Good Samaritan,” with all that the sign implied, was an early influence in his decision to become a part of the drug industry.

From this beginning, many people have worked together, favored by American freedom of choice and action, to develop his organization and to make it grow.

To the thousands of Lilly people who have become a part of it and who have shared so importantly in shaping its progress, we are sincerely grateful.
