Dearborn Mayor Asked to ‘Sit In’

DETROIT, May 7 (UP)—The

CIO United Auto Workers' union today accepted an invitation to a, meeting to attempt settlement of} the Ford Motor Co. strike, which! threatens imminent shutdown of Ford plants and supply firms throughout the nation. The union's acceptance came af-| ter the company announced plans for plant shutdowns in 16 states] within 10 days. { Walter Reuther, UAW prestdent, agreed to méet next Thurs-| day with Mayor Orville Hubbard of suburban Dearborn, where] Ford's River Rouge plant is lo-| cated. Mayor Hubbard also in-| vited Gov. G. Mennen Williams| and Henry Ford II, company, president. Gov. Williams said he would attend the meeting “if it would! serve any useful purpose.” Mr, Ford had not yet replied. Mayor Hubbard has been at odds with the company since it supported an!
