Twelve hours, two well sunburned arms and a couple of sandwiches “after 7 o'clock this morning, we returned here after a day of tarpon fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. Our catch, after more than 40 miles of fishing, was one sea robin, which isn’t good to eat, although it has the amazing ability to fly, crawl and swim, and one sea bass, which is good to eat, providing it's big suough; This one wasn't. . That we didn’t catch any tarpon certainly wasn’t the fault of our guides, Bill Sininger, captain of the Lili-Alice, and his mate Charlie Naylor. They did everything dn the book to try and find us a tarpon, or kingfish or an

‘. amberjack, but try as they

might, there just weren't any arohnd.

Three of us made the fishing trip today aboard the Lili-Alice, my wife Willetta, Willy Burcham and myself, Getting started involved rising at 5 a m., eating breakfast, making sandwiches and coffee to take with us. We drove north to Madiera Beach and the dock of the Lili-Alice where Capt. Bill and Charlie Were waiting for us.

Nautical Terms Already

It didn’t take us long to stow our gear forward. (Hmm, didn’t take us long to get nautical, either). By 7 a. m. we were underway and headed for Johns Pass and the Guif. Our fishing craft was a trim little vessel of 40 feet, with a three-foot draft. She Was powered by a 115 horsepower marine engine which would move -her along from 12 to 15 miles per hour, ] Using plugs hooked onto 60pound tést nylon lines, we started

tice for six miles up the coast . and then headed farther out into the Gulf, . =r At this point, we changed plugs and started trolling for tarpon, king of the Florida gamefish. We trolled until we oh rg 10 miles off the coast.
