of THE RIGHTEOUSNESS WHICH"IS BY FAITH.” (Heb. 11:7.) + Without a single exception, men have always been. accounted righteous because of their faith: not because of their works. (Read Heb. 11:1-40.) Grace is repeatedly mentioned as having been extended to men of faith in olden times: “Noah found GRACE in the eyes of the Lord.” (Gen. 6:8.) “Thus saith the Lord: The people which were left of the sword found GRACE in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.” (Jer. 31:2.) “The Lord will give GRACE and glory: no

thing will he™“withtold from them that walk uprightly.”.“Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth _

(Ps. 84:11.) GRACE unto the lowly.” (Prov. 3:34.) In Ex. 33:12-19; 34:69, grace and gracious are mentioned seven times. What is grace?—"Divine mercy or forgiveness. Divine assistance given man for his regeneration or sanctification.” ~—Webster. In mercy God forgave the people of old. Then He extended grace, or “Divine assistance” to enable them to overcome their sins. But some insist there was no grace before Christ came, because John says, “The law was given by Moses, but GRACE and TRUTH came by Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17.) If this text teaches.there was no Grace before Christ came, it also teaches there was no truth, for it says Jesus Christ.” If there was no truth, all that the prophets had previously written was falsehood. But David declares; “Thy law is the truth ... And all Thy commandments are truth . . . Thy word is true FROM THE BEGINNING.” (Ps. 119:142, 151, 160.) And Jesus said, “Thy word is truth.” (John 17:17.) Then how-eould it be said that truth came by Because Christ, by His Spirit; revealed the®trutheto.the ancient prophets. Please read I Peter 1:10, 11, Grace has also been available from the beginning, for we are told that God has saved us, “according to His own purpose and GRACE, which was given us in Christ Jesus BEFORE THE WORLD BEGAN.” (2 Tim. 1:9.) Christ is “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” (Rev. 13.8.) By. virtue of this

sacrifice, which was planned from the foundation of the

world, grace, or mercy, was just as fréely bestowed before the cross as afterwards. But what about this text: “For sin shall not have dominjon.over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace?” (Rom. 6:14.) Sinners are under the condemnation of the law because they have transgressed it. - But if our transgression is forgiven we are no’‘longer under the condemnation of the law, but under grace. However, if we transgress the law again by stealing, lying, killing, etc., we are right back under its condemnation, Paul warns us of this very thing by saying, “What then? Shall we sin (or transgress the law), because.

we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.” (Rom. 6:15.) emember, “Sin ig the transgression of the law.” (1 John 3:4; Rom. 7:7).

It is very evident that no one is under grace except those who have fully accepted Jesus Christ, ‘and have ceased to transgress His law: “He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments ‘is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” (1 John 2:4.) .It is only God's enemies who are not subject to His law: “Because the emrnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So they that are ih the flesh cannot please God.” (Rom. R:7-8) Friend, remember, you aré not under grace unless you have accepted Christ both for the forgive-

ness of your sins, and for grace to live in harmony with His ;

law. ‘HE ROAD TO HEAVEN, AND THE. ROAD TO HELL” will be the subject Sunday evening at 7:30 at the
