Minor Suit Rule of One and Two Is Vital in Employing
‘The Blackwood Convention
Don’t Use Four No Trump Bid When It May Put You ‘On the Spot’
By EASLEY BLACKWOOD THE ABUSE of a certain part of the Blackwood Convention Joses untold thousands of points. I refer to the mi-
nor suit rule of one and two. If you are considering a slam that will play only in clubs, you should not bid four no trump unless you hold at least two aces. If vou are considering a slam on a hand that will play only at diamonds, you should not bid four no trump unless you hold at least one ace, Think this over and the reason will be clear. Suppose your agreed suit is clubs. If you have only one ace,-bid four no trump, and find partner with only one ace, he must bid five dlamonds, And now you ‘are overboard. There is ino way to get back to five clubs

Host Chairs
Add Elegance
By ELIZABETH HILLYER HOST CHAIRS dress up the dining room the minute you put them in the room. But they make sense with their elegance — you choose them not only for the eéxtra comfort and good give that room, but for what they can do for the living room, too. The easily moved host or occasional chair grows more popular for the living room every day, and for plenty of reasons. On that sunny someday that television makes itself at home in almost as many homes as radio the chair that adapts itself to new arrangements for group viewings will be a must. Rooms are too small now to take many big upholstered to the floor chairs — we like a lighter, airier look in our fur-
{ nishings—and we're sold to the
hilt on the new idea that furniture should whenever possible be usable in more than one place.
