By W. L. Latham
Pastor of the South Side Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Corner of Orange and Laurel Sts.
Christ's Second Coming—No. 1
“Christ has come! Christ has come!! He is working mighty miracles. You. should go down to see Him.” This is exactly what you will be told some day. But ~ Jesus said, Believe it. not. - For... there shall arise false Christs— ‘showing great signs and. won-' ders; insomuch that, if it sere possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” Matt. 24:24. Christ said some of these would appear in secret chambers; others in the:
_ degert. But He warns us not to gc out to see them, for the
coming of the true Christ will not be a secret event, for at that time “shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall ALL THE TRIBES of the earth mourn, and they SHALL SEE the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of Beye en to the other.” Matt. 24:30; 31. (Rev. 17). = : Christ does not set up His kingdom on earth at His second coming,’but all the resurrected, and the living saints, clothed in incorruptible, immortal bodies, will be caught up together in the clouds to meet their Lord in the air, and will be taken to those glorious mansions in the skies, where they shall live and reign with Christ for a thousand years before returning to this earth to dwell forever more. (1 Cor. 15: 4153, 1 Thes. 4:16-18; Rev. 20:4-6; 2 Peter 3:9-14). Some. may think this long-looked-for event has been unduly delayed, but we are assured that, as we approach the end of this world’s history, great events will transpire in rapid succession, and God's program will be quickly. drawn to a close. Before we realize it, in a most awful sudden and unexpected moment, we are going to find ourselves standing transfixed, gazing into the eastern heavens, watching the most . sublime, awe-inspiring, soul-stirring scene of the ages— the approach of the Son of God with His countless millions of "angels clothed in garments of brightness that shine like the stn. The heavens will-be ablaze with an indescribable glory, while this old sin-cursed earth reels and rolls like a ship on a storm-tossed sea. The prophet Isaiah declarés, “The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be temoved like a cottage; and the transgréssion thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.” (Read Isa. 24:123). While this old earth is being shaken from center to eircumference, and the great towering mountains go sprawling in the plains, and the islands of the sea are being swallowed up, the righteous will rejoice in the consumation of the ho which has heen so fondly cherished by. God's people ho through the ages. With glad hearts they gaze heavenward as their blessed Lord descends from the gkies in flamiing glory. With rapt attention, they listen to Hi¥ voice a5 it resounds throughout the earth, calling forth the sleeping saints from their dusty beds. Friends long separated ‘by death, will once more be united, never more to part. Then this blessed, bloodwashed throng, with songs of gladness, and hearts overflow-
ing with joy, will wing their tireless flight fo that home of
glory, there to walk the golden streets of the New Jerusalem, where “they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” Friena, I want to be there. Don't you? FREE! A fine Bible _corfespondence course. Enroll now. Bible questions welcomed. Address me at 2812 Ryeckle St, Indianapolis 5, Ind. You are invited to | our church at Orange and Laurel Sts.,
