Drawer Pulls Make Chest

Attractive By ELIZABETH HILLYER IT'S ALL done with drawer pulls, The simplest ready-to-paint chest you can find is plain practical and nothing else—or it's a star in the room’s decoration. For. the Chinese change-over, wooden molding by the foot becomes the drawer pulls. Design the chest so that this molding covers "the holes left by the old knobs. It's easy to do—simply attach a single straight bar of the molding ‘to the center of the center drawer. Start the molding at the bottom edge of the top drawer and at the top edge of the bottom drawer.

old pulls cannot be seen—where the long bar doesn’t cover it the shorter vertical bar does. Now paint the chest an eyecatching color—better still, make if two chests, paint them handsomely and use them together. Then step up the whole grouping with a big mirror and important tall lamps.

Underneath those layers of dingy varnish you may have something there—a beautiful piece of furniture that needs only to show its fine wood grain. Learn how to work refinishing wonders with the help of Elizabeth Hillyer's new booklet “FURNITURE REFINISH-ING—-HOW TO DO IT YOURSELF.” It's yours for 15 cents and a stamped, self-addressed envelope sent to Miss Hillyer at The Indianapolis Times.
