BACK TO THE BIBLE! |

By W. L. Latham

Pastor of the South Side’ Seventh- -Day Adventist Church, Corner of Orange and Laurel Sts.

How to B Be Saved—No. 2

“Halt! You Are Under Arrest.’ " “What does this mean? What have I done?’ “You have been tried in absentee for murder, and sentenced to die’ What message could bring greater terror to a human soul? I am sorry to disturb you, friend, but this is exactly the message I bring to you today, for the Holy Scriptures declare, “ALL have sinned,” and ‘the wages of sin is DEATH.” Rom. "3:23; 6:23. It is .-not to be an easy death, such as - electrocution, but all sinners will’ “have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.” Rev. 21:8. Humanly speaking, there is no escape from this awful sentence of doom, but “God so loved the worid that He gave His only begotten Son, that whamsoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. However this great sacrifice will avail us nothing unless we feel our need, confess our sins, and change our ways, “for “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper; but who so CONFESSETH and FORSAKETH them shall have mercy.”

confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to CLEANSE us from ALL unrighteousness. 1. John 1:9. We must not only confess, but believe down deep in our hearts that God, for Christ's sake, hak forgiven us, “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness: and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romi. 10:10. When we sin we transgress the law of God, “For sin

ever we should confess our faults one to another, and ask forgiveness of those who have been affected by our wrongdoing. As another has expressed it: “True confession is always of a specific character, and acknowledges particular sins. They may be of such a nature as to be brought before God only; they -may be wrongs that should be confessed to individuals who have suffered injury through them; or they may be of a public character, and should then be as publicly confessed. But all confession should be defiinte and to the point, acknowledging the very sins of which you are guilty.” 8. C, p. 43. " There are two kinds of confessions: one is forced from the guilty sould by fear of punishment; the other is inspired "by a deep heart-broken sorrow for sin, such as was expresséd by Job when he said, “I ABHOR MYSELF, and repent in dust and ashes.” Job 42:6. A deep sense of guilt brings distress to the soul, which can be relieved only by a humble confession of our sin. The Psalmist says, “When I kept SILENCE, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. For day and night thy hand WAS HEAVY upon me.I | ACKNOWLEDGED my sin unto Thee—and Thou FOR. || GAVEST the iniquity of my sin.” Ps, 32:3-5. Friend, let's | confess, and get ‘right with God and man today! Tomorrow may be f Fever too late. FRE +A Bible correspondence course. Enroll now,
