Saddler’s Pilot Charges Referee With Favoritism

Hornets Protest News to Miller

NEW YORK, Feb. 15 (UP)— Charley Johnston; president of the New York boxing managers guild and pilot of Bandy Saddler,

will .protest .. officially today to the boxing commission against Referee Eddie Joseph's work in the Willle Pep-Saddler fight last Friday night. Johnston, still” as torridly critical of the referee as he was Friday night when Saddler lost| {the world featherweight to Pep, explained the purpose of his protest as follows:

But he wanted

Dick Miller, general muriger| of the Indianapolis Capitals, said at noon today he had not been officially notified of a protest filed against the Caps by the Pittsburgh Hornets. Pittsburgh officials said they had protested Sunday night's game played at the Coliseum and won by the Caps, 4-2. The win {installed the Caps as the Western division leader for the first time this season. The protest was based on the claim that Wingman Les Costello of the Hornets had been held an extra 2% minutes in the penalty the - third period. Maurice Podolof?, Erie of the American Hockey League, received the protest. Miller said Costello had been penalized for 5 minutes. He actually served 714 minutes because of a misunderstanding be tween officials on the ice and officials in the penalty box, however, Indianapolis scored one goal while Costello was off the ice. Miller said: “There may have some confusion. it was a rough third period and Pittsburgh players were roughing and abusing officials, A mistake could have been made, - If one was made, however, the Pittsburgh team has no one to blame but itself.”
