First All-White Mink * Coat Brings $25,000 ~{ ~The original “silverblu” mink coat appeared on the market in December, 1042. It was snapped up for $18,000. The first all-white mink creation sold for ‘around $25,000. \ Seattle put itself on the map as a mutation mink center in 1945. That was the year royal pastel was offered to the waiting world. The year 1949 will mark another milestone in blue mink history, too. A limited quantity of the fabulous “Aleutian Blue” strain will be offered at a New York auction on Feb. 28. The remarkable thing about “Aleut,” as the experts fondly refer to it, is that it's all blue from its long guard hairs down to under-fur.
