collegiate leader in scoring average has a splendid shooting mark of 594. - Meanwhile, George Mikan of the Minneapolis Lakers leads the Basketball Association of Amerfca with a percentage of 427 and Arnie Risen of the Rochester Roy; als is second with 423. But the pros will (ell you, these are two different games of basketball—and the averages of ‘Mikan and Risen are much more fantastic actually than is Macauley’s higher average. Weak Opposition “A big man like Macauley plays only about 22 college games and in 11 or more of ‘those contests is stacked against a man no where near as able as he is,” one pro official explained. “The result is that Macauley, or any other top college player, can almost call his own total on any evening against such .a lesser performer. “But in pro basketball,” he added, “every team has a big, good ‘man to play against such as Mikan and Risen. Thus it is amazing that they can come anywhere near such a Remember, too, that Mikan's average of 427 comes from making 312 field goals in 731 shots. That's seven times as many shots. as Macauley has attempted — and the more shots, the more room for a margin of error and less percentage.” O'Shea Mentioned Considering the many more games played and the consistent
