Plan Funeral Of Rev. Smith Here Friday
Set Rites for Pastor In 31st St. Church
“The-Rev.. Ldoyd.. Demar. Indianapolis | native, Christmas with his wife and two small children a little early last week in Marathon, N. Y. He died yésterday in the Lilly Clinic of General Hospital of heart complications after a three week's. illness. He was 29. Following the early Christmas celebration, Rev. Smith left by ambulance and Pullman Wednesday night for Indianapolis in order to enter the Lilly Clinic. His family followed and spent the holidays in the home of his parents, Mr. and - Mrs, H.-A, Smith, 1237 W. 31st St. Little Dianne, 5, and Eddy, two-and-one-half years old, were too worried to enjoy the Christ-
mas their daddy's parents had prepared for them. Born in Indianapolis, Rev.
Smith lived in Indianapolis 23 years before moving to Marathon in 1942 to assume the pastorate of the First Baptist Church
re. Built Up Congregation During his six years there, he built the small congregation from scarcely more than 50 to well over 150 and brightened the entire community with his spirit-| ual leadership. Fire gutfed the interior of his small church during his ministry and funds for the complete redecoration of its interior were raised through his efforts. He was a graduate of Shortridge High School and the Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnston City, N. Y., and president of the Baptist' Bible Seminary Alumni Fellowship. Before leaving Indianapciis, Rev. Smith was a member of the Thirty-First Street Baptist Church. Services at 2 p. m. Friday in the Thirty-First Street Baptist Church will be conducted by the Rev. Robert D. McCarthy, pastor of the church and Dr. Earl G.
Griffith, associate director of the;
Letourneau Foundation in New York City. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Other survivors besides his wife, Rubyann Brace Smith, his children and parents, are two brothers, Gene A. Smith, Little Rock, Ark. and Raymond 8. Smith, Indianapolis, and a sister, Mrs. Robert Pearson, Indianapolis.
