Ask Mrs. Manners—
Is 20-Month-Old Baby
Too Young
I couldn't ask my second husband, the man I lo e . 4 care of a baby not belonging to him, so I went back to live with my ” ¥ first husband after divorcing my lover. To this day he doesn’t know 5 why I left, unless his mother told him. His mother said he still] * ¥ loves. me but was so lost without me that he married again. I still] » ‘
live with my first husband.’ . I'm 20 and have a big, happy life ahead, I hope. I was married ut 17, thinking I loved a man 19
years older than I. I got to go!
places and spend money on nice clothes, which I'd always wanted. AL all andiag
I was getting divorced by the time a boy I went with before I knew my husband came home from war. My old boy friend and I went together awhile, I found I had beeome pregnant. My love and I married and were so happy. We were really in love. Something started me thinking ‘and I found. the baby belonged to my first husband. Too Honest to lie, I packed and left, telling my first husband the baby was his, The baby's father spoils him and doesn’t want me to correct him. I want him to learn to mind. Do you think a baby 20 months old is too young to spank? My baby ‘and I go out by ourselves all" the timie—his. father never goes with me.. He doesn’t want me to take the baby out—winter is too cold and summer .js too hot. . I don’t love him because he doesn’t give me any encouragement and he doesn’t give me love and ‘understanding. . All he cares about are his stock and the baby.
Shall I ask him to marry me and |"
keep the family together or should I take the baby and go on by myself? He can give the baby more than I can. All I can offer are love-and-companionship. MRS. M.J.T.

Marrying the baby’s father wouldn’t help much if you falled to work harder than you've worked so far to make your marriage a success. The child needs a good mother as well as a father, The way you're Uving now isn't doing anything for the child. People remember such things, and eventually the child will hear rumors. Your son wouldn't think you skipped marriage completely because of your mother love. The baby needs discipline, in moderation, and guidance.
