Week-End Tilts Prove Passes OK—in Place

football was running, not walking, toward the nearest exit today to the tune of “Anchors Aweigh” and as the curtain started down there was plenty of evidence that the triple threat is here to stay. The final big football game Saturday proved that passing is a fine weapon, in its place. But no longer can a team throw more pitches than Dizzy Dean used in 11 innings and hope to make it stick. There was a time, not too long ago, when football almost became a cross between basketball and jai alai, so frantically were the boys throwing the ball. But in the big showdowns Saturday the accent was on the lads who can both loop it and leg it.

What a Week End

It was an unusual week end. Navy tied Army, 21-21, ending the Cadets’ all-winning streak. Notre Dame won its 21st straight, eclipsing the immortal Rockne’s all-winning record. West Virginia upset Maryland

On their fourth trip they met their match when the Haugh Garage combination took them for three straight stanzas to total a 33-pin lead. Looking around after the pins stopped falling, the Won-Tenners decided a 3-to-1 lead was a good start and are still open to challenge by any male team. They are tentatively slated to play the Beanblossom Mortuary squad at 3 p. m. Dec. 12 in the Pennsylvania lanes. This women’s team is chosen monthly from top scorers in the Won-Ten League. : By United Press : The Cleveland Browns’ “iron men,” led by their paragon, Otto Graham, wrapped up their third straight All-America Conference western division championship Sunday by edging San Francisco's Forty-Niners, 31 to 28. It was the Browns’ third victory in eight days; a mark presumab] in the annals of the gridiron sport. It also was the 13th straight victory of the season for the who represent the pro game's only|_ undefeated team. Graham's passing accounted for all the Cleveland touchdowns, but the actual margin of ietony was supplied by Lou (the Groza, who booted a 17-yard . goal in the .rst period. A crowd of 61, fans in Sar RLI0 Toa Stadium watched the FortyNiners pull out to a 21 to 10 lead early in the third period. Joe Perry bucked for the first
