By HENRY BUTLER Carol Brice’s song recital at the Murat last night may turn out to have been this season's t. F
And that makes it seem all the more ~ unfortunate that Miss Brice had so few listeners. ’
Sponsored here by Second Christian Church, Miss Brice did some of the finest contralto singing I've heard in years. When so beautiful a voice is combined with. such good musicianship, there's not much for a critic to say except in terms of highest praise. From the first notes of the Italian group with which she opened, it was evident that she knows exactly how to use her extraordinary vocal resources. And I think she was even more effective in her German lieder, particularly “Im Fruehling” and “Im Herbst” of Robert Frans. It seemed to me her German diction was clearer and more precise than her Italian or French. What's more, she managed to convey the mood and sense of German lieder better than most
singers do.
