CI Board Opens Leftwing Purge
Farm Equipment Union First Target
PORTLAND, Ore, Nov. 27 (UP)—The CIO executive board started its purge of small leftwing unions today by ordering the United Farm Workers to merge with the huge, right-wing = United Automobile Workers Union. =
onal Convention authorized the board to take appropriate action to organize workers in flelds where existing unions have failed. The agtion was aimed primarily at small left-wing unions which were under heavy fire from CIO President Philip Murray and other right-wing officials all week. A A jurisdictional committee once before ordered the farm implement group to join the UAW but negotiations always broke down. To guard against continued disagreement, the resolution pro‘vided that the executive board itself would carry out the decision if the unions cannot make their own arrangements within 60 days.
