feature was establishing a handicap for each participant just as in bowling. This evened up the competition and led to some redhot contests during the past season. The handicap plan was worked out by Mr. Tabor and proved popular. A result of the success here has been its adoption by casting organizations in a number of other cities over the country. At a preliminary meeting Thursday night it was indicated that eight teams would be entered in the league this year with room for two more. Teams and team members do not have to be members of the Indianapolis Casting Club.

Plan United Front

Things are looking up for Inana’s ° conservation program with the announcement that representatives of the State Conservation Advisory Committee ‘and of Conservation United will meet in Indianapolis on Dec. 6 to formulate a legislative program.

Out of this - session which Byron Kennedy, of the conservation department will also attend, is expected to come a unified program for consideration by the General Assembly when it convenes in January. Backed by more than a hundred organized conservationists, the proposals were ‘sounded out” prior to the election. The session of the legislative committees on Dec. 6 will precede the regular quarterly meeting of the State Conservation Advisory Committee in the evening. The session is an outgrowth of a suggestion for such action sent to Bernard Gross, Washington, advisory committee head, several weeks ago by Carl Lee Compton, Indianapolis, president of Conservation United.

Proposed Legislation

The advisory committee has announced only one proposal for legislation—the placing of Conservation Officers on a merit system similar to that of the state police. Other suggestions from conservation clubs are to be present at the committee's evening’ session. Among proposals for legislation which will come from the conservation department will be a provision for the teaching of natural resources conservation in‘the public schools. Other proposals are under consideration including some safeguard for fish and wildlife from DDT and other products used on a wholesale

Last Week for Ducks

This is the last week for Hoosier nimrods to bag ducks, geese and coot. The open season of these waterfowl officially ends at 3:23 p. m. Baturday, Nov. 27, one hour before sunset. Generally it has been an unsatisfactory season for most hunters, not many of whom have even had a chance to get the limit.

Hunting—'Good,’ ‘Bad’

Depends on whom you're talking to whether it's a good or bad season as far as rabbits and) quail are concerned. For the most| part birds and rabbits have been more plentiful in Marion and] nearby counties this season than last. A few nimrods have had! good luck, for most of them it, has been indifferent. | Stories are coming out of Scott! and Jennings Counties of hunters getting their limit of 20 quail, in-|

20 and the rabbit season on Jan. 0.

Safety in Hunting

Don’t be surprised if the growing concern about hunting safety results in some real agitation for legislation regulating the use of firearms and setting unp quaffications for hunters. Six deaths and 21 injuries in hunting accidents, admittedly an incomplete list for the past year, have been recorded by the Conservation Department. - Several reports have come in of hunters out after quail and rabbits with high-power rifles designed for big game shooting and using high velocity shells, a combination which will kill miles away. Maybe hunters should be restricted to shotguns with a three-shot capacity, such as are

; By JIM SMITH A) THERE IS a song called “Doin’ What Comes Naturally.” When Shirley England picks up a bowling ball that song fits her to a “T,” for bowling to her is the most natural thing in the world.
