A spokesman said the agehoy has “postponed indefinitely” its to disclose how much money has been built up in its “kitty” of overpayments. He said earlier the disclosure might be made this week. Unofficial estimates have put the sum at approximately $2 billion. : Postponement of the announcement will not delay payments of the rebates, the spokesman emphasized. No checks are expected [to go out in any case before late next year. Built Up Over 8 Years The “kitty” was built up over the past eight years because pfemiums were higher than proved necessary to offset deaths. By law the premiums are based on a mortality table that dates back to the last century. Speculation of how much money the “kitty” embraces has run from $1 billion to $4 billion.
