He played too quietly, as it turned out. But that kind of performance is more admirable since it has more promise than noisy imitation of some virtuoso. With the confidence of experience Mr. Smith will be able to translate into pianistic sound the gooé¢ musical ideas and excellent. taste he possesses. In a half kidding suggestion I might add that he could solve the hair-brushing-back problem! with a Rachmaninoff crew cut.
