Rail Embargo on In Shipping Tieup

Idle on East Coast

NEW YORK, Nov. 13 (UP)— The freight embargo was extended to all major East Coast ports today as a strike of 65,000 AFL longshoremen idled hundreds of ships in harbors along a 700-mile stretch of the seaboard. The Asdociation of American Railroads sent telegrams to member roads asking them to halt export shipments fmmediately to all strike-bound ports. Shipments to New York and Boston were halted yesterday and the embargo was expected-to be completely effective by Monday.

Only Gulf Ports Open The strike left only Gulf of Mexico ports in business. West coast ports have been tied up since Sept. 2. 2 Washington officials meanwhile pointed out that a continuous flow of Marshall Plan aid to Europe is a basic requirement of United States foreign policy.
